FAQ

What's the difference between exchange versus spare carbonating cylinders?

Our carbonating cylinders are the heart of your Sparkling Water Maker. It perfectly fits your Sparkling Water Maker and contains colorless, odorless, incombustible gas, used to help create the bubbles.

With a gas exchange, you return any empty SodaStream cylinder and just pay the price of the gas for a new cylinder. You can easily exchange your carbonating cylinder via home delivery or at a store near you.

A spare cylinder is there so you never run out of gas. You pay for the license of the cylinder and the gas. SodaStream recommends having at least 3 cylinders on hand, so you’ll always have bubbles and so you can exchange 2 at a time, taking advantage of the reduced shipping charge.

How often will I need to replace my CO2 cylinder?

Our 60L cylinders typically make up to 60 liters of sparkling water. How often you replace them depends on how often—and how fizzy—you like your drinks!

SodaStream recommends keeping at least 3 cylinders, so you can exchange two at a time and always have one ready to go.

How do I know if my CO2 cylinder is empty?

There are some tests you can try to help determine if your CO2 cylinder is out of gas:

  • Make sure the carbonating cylinder is tight enough and retighten it if necessary by twisting the cylinder to the right.
  • If you're still not getting bubbles and if you don't hear a sputtering sound when you press the carbonating button*, you may be out of gas.

You can get a new cylinder through our online exchange program or a participating retail location.

Pro-tip: SodaStream recommends keeping at least 3 cylinders, so you can exchange two at a time and always have one ready to go.

*In 2020, we upgraded the Aqua Fizz Sparkling Water Maker with a new, silent valve. In these Sparkling Water Makers, it is normal to not hear a sputtering sound and is not an indication of the amount of CO2 left in the cylinder.

Why do we recommend that you always have more than one cylinder?
We recommend keeping a back-up carbonating cylinder handy so that when one CO2 cylinder runs out, you simply swap the empty cylinder for a full one. That way, you'll keep enjoying fresh, fizzy drinks without interruption. You can exchange the empty carbonator via courier service or in a store near you. Click here to purchase a spare cylinder. Sparkle Pro-tip: Exchange 2 or more cylinders and you can save over 45% in shipping fees!
