power your fizz with our CO2 cylinders

The CO2 cylinder behind every bubble

Every Sodastream sparkling water maker is compatible with a specific cylinder - either the Quick Connect Cylinder or the classic Screw-In Cylinder. The right one depends on your machine, but both give you the same refreshing sparkle you love.

The Quick Connect Cylinder, with its pink handle, clicks neatly into place - no twisting needed. It’s the simplest way to start sparkling in seconds. The classic Screw In Cylinder, marked with a blue seal, secures firmly at the back of your machine and delivers bubbles just as brilliantly.

Whichever type you have, each cylinder is cleaned, sealed, and tested to guarantee safe, consistent carbonation. That means you can enjoy reliable fizz, every time.

Not sure which CO₂ cylinder fits your machine? Use our cylinder guide to check compatibility and keep the bubbles flowing, hassle-free.

FAQ

Should I buy Exchange Cylinders, Spare Cylinders or get a CO2 Subscription?

This depends on how you want to manage your CO2 usage. A CO2 subscription is the most cost efficient way to fizz if you know how often you’ll need your cylinders and how many (from £10 per cylinder and free delivery when you order 4+ cylinders). But if you’re unsure how often you’ll need them, you can buy our Exchange Cylinders and exchange within 90 days. If you would rather exchange your cylinders in-store, you can buy Spare Cylinders instead and save £10 off your new cylinder when you take your empty cylinder into over 2,000 stores including Sainsbury’s, Currys, Argos and Ryman.

Where and how do I exchange my cylinders?

How you exchange your cylinders depends on the type of cylinders you have. Returns are always free. If you have a CO2 subscription or purchased Exchange Cylinders online, you’ll return your empty cylinders either by InPost (locker or shop), or Swap-It (if you choose this option at checkout). If you purchased a Spare Cylinder, it’s best to exchange in-store at one of over 2,000 stores and you’ll save £10 off your new cylinder when you bring in your empty cylinder(s).

Why do I have to return my empty CO2 cylinders?

Our CO2 system is designed to be a circular system which looks like:

We send you CO2 → you use CO2 → return empty CO2 cylinder to us → we sterilise, inspect & re-fill the cylinder → it gets sent to another customer.

This means every cylinder is used, returned, cleaned and refilled for many years. It’s a key part of our sustainability mission and is used by hundreds of thousands of people globally. To ensure the cylinders remain in the ecosystem to be reused (rather than thrown in landfill), we charge customers £10 for each exchange or subscription cylinder that’s not returned to us within their specified returns window. We call this a ‘Missing Cylinder Charge’ or ‘non-returned cylinder charge’ and is charged to the original payment method.

What should I do with empty CO2 cylinders?

Please don’t throw them away, recycle at home or take to your local recycling centre! They’re designed to be re-filled and re-used for many years. Exchange them to save money off your new cylinders. If you no longer need your cylinders, you can return your empty cylinders and receive a £5 Sparkling Water Makers, CO2, Flavour Syrups | Sodastream UK voucher.

How should I store my cylinders?

The CO2 cylinders should be stored in a cool and dry environment, away from direct sunlight. The carbonating cylinder must NOT be exposed to sources of heat (such as prolonged travel in the boot of a hot car) or stored next to a heat source such as an oven, stove or fireplace.
