How and When to Return Your Empty Cylinders - Online
What Happens After Your Sodastream CO₂ Order: Your Post-Purchase Guide for cylinders purchased via sodastream.co.uk. Looking for returns info for cylinders bought in-store? Click here
When your Sodastream CO₂ cylinders arrive there’s one more step to keep in mind: returning the empty cylinders. Whether you ordered a one-time exchange or a sparkling water maker bundle, or if you're subscribed for regular CO2 deliveries, here’s everything you need to know about returning your empties and to keep our exchange program running smoothly and sustainably and avoid any unnecessary missing cylinder charges.
The same process applies to both our pink Quick Connect cylinders and our blue screw-in cylinders.
Keep hold of your box!
The best and easiest way to send back your empty CO2 cylinders is to hold on to the box came in. If you already threw away or damaged your box, you can use any sturdy box for the return but make sure to clearly write your Customer Account Number (found in My Account) on the outside of the box.
When do I have to return them by?
Your return window for your CO2 cylinders (the date by which you have to return them to avoid a Missing Cylinder Charge) depends on the way you bought your cylinders.
Online exchange (not subscription): return within 90 days
Extra/Mega Bundles: return within 90 days (formerly ‘Plus’ and ‘Ultimate’ bundles)
CO2 subscription: your subscription frequency plus 30 days (e.g. if you purchase CO2 with a 3-month frequency, you have 3 months + 30 days to return your cylinders by).
3 Simple Steps To Return My Empty Cylinders
- Box up your empty cylinders.
- We’ve gone paperless! So you’ll no longer find a returns label in your box. To explore your returns options, click here. To get your free returns label, request a QR code here from InPost to return at a locker or shop. You’ll need your Sodastream Customer Account Number (which you can find in My Account).
- Return to your nearest InPost locker or shop – you can find your nearest return locations here.
Tracking Your Return
Once we’ve received your cylinders back to our warehouse, you’ll receive an email notification and your My Account page will be updated with your return status as ‘Closed’. If you’re waiting longer than 7-8 days for a return notification, do get in touch with our Customer Support team to check your cylinders have been logged correctly.

How Many Cylinders Do I Need To Return?
The amount of cylinders you need to return depends on how you bought your cylinders.
Online exchange: exchange the number of cylinders you bought (e.g. if you selected ‘2’ on our gas exchange, you need to send back 2 cylinders within 90 days)
CO2 Subscription: exchange the number of cylinders you signed up for (e.g. if you signed up to a 4 cylinder subscription, you need to send back 4 cylinders back within your chosen frequency + 30 days).
Retail Exchange: exchange as many cylinders as you’d like in-store
Need More Time?
If you’re coming to the end of your CO2 return window but you’re not quite out of fizz yet, just let us know here and we’ll extend your window so you don’t receive a missing cylinder charge.
What Happens If I Don't Return?
If any cylinders aren’t returned on time, or if fewer are sent back than were ordered, a £10 charge per un-returned cylinder will be charged automatically. This fee covers the cost of the cylinder and helps us maintain the quality and availability of our exchange program.
What Happens If I Return My Cylinders Too Late?
If you send your cylinders back after the returns deadline, you will receive a ‘Missing Cylinder Charge’ of £10 per cylinder. However, if you do return them, these cylinders will be logged against your account and you will be refunded once they are received at our warehouse. Any issues, get in touch with our Customer Support team with your proof of return.
Can I Return In-Store instead?
If you have a Spare Cylinder, yes – you can read how to do this here.
If you’re on an exchange or subscription, we need to log your cylinders against your account to avoid a missing cylinder charge. If you exchange your cylinders in-store, we won’t know that you have returned your cylinders, so you’ll automatically be charged a £10 charge per cylinder as per our T&Cs. It’s best if you return them to us directly within your returns window so we can log your cylinders against your account automatically (and avoid any charges).
If for whatever reason you are unable to return them to us directly, please get in touch with our Customer Support team so they can advise you on your options.
Returning your cylinders is fast, free, and essential to keeping the Sodastream CO2 system sustainable. Thank you for helping us close the loop!
